Hello Hello
it's been a long time since i got back here.
too many things to do, so little time!
i only get online 4 times a month now, and bloggie takes a back back seat.
have even thought of closing this down,
but i'll leave the past up here.
it has some nice memories.
------------------------------------
i even skipped juggling for 3 weeks
it's been such a whirlwind i don't even remember what i did
but skipping juggling was a little due to burnout more than lack of time
last week was delicious though
it was hell physically as usual but i was brimming with excitment almost all the time
my project at work is never short of challenges
this project is notorious
one because there're ALWAYs problems, and two because the customer for this project demands a lot of attention to details and if he doesn't get what he wants, you can be sure your boss' boss' boss' boss' knows abt it. he goes up so high he's not even satisfied with the director of the company, he'll go all the way to corporate directors in USA.
one teammember was telling me all she wants is to "do her job quietly, peacefully, without drawing the boss' attention." I told her laughingly no one working in this project ever enjoys a low profile.
-------------------------
so there was a minor catastrophe at work
colleagues say i'm gonna get a star award soon for having the most number of failed products in the debug room.
i was not overly panicky because the ball is not in my court
but even the numbers are beginning to look ridiculous to me.
so i took a deep breath and demanded the customer do something abt it during our conference call.
in the local culture, this is rarely done, and i was quite worried about my gung-honess too. but i thought of what GB (the wonderwoman of the alabama side) would have done, and i knew this was the thing to do.
The customer said they would consult their powers-to-be, and if the management's decision is to wait, then we'll wait. i replied that i understand their position, but my powers-to-be are finding the numbers unacceptable.
Next morning the decision was made and our numbers fell by half. what sweet victory. :) it was all teamwork with the customer as well, but i'm glad i grabbed the problem by its balls and just did something concrete abt it.
-------------------------------------
so the past week was spent writing up a program for my machine.
i didn't have to do it, i just wanted to do it because it's so 3rd world to do things manually and i think the onus should be on the engineer to improve things like that.
it's so satisfying to see something you created being used in the real world.
of course for good measure, since it's my program, i can do what i want with it.
so i put a picture of a chicken as my interface, and a huge "HIT ME" for users to click on.
it cracks me up whenever i walk past and see them using my chicken program.
MJ says sekali i kana warning letter.
a warning letter for this sounds quite like a badge of honor no?
"you're hereby warned for putting a chicken on the screen"
the surface may be all chicken, but the program is all real and working man.
--------------------------------------------------------
met up with the jugglers on friday.
it was nice to see them again after so long.
apparently MJ was overseas and siyong was ill so they missed the last few sessions as well.
Di hong was lamenting how poor the attendance was and suddenly last friday it was full house.
all of us just coincidentally turned up on the same day.
juggling felt fresh again after a 3 week break
and it was nice talking to them again
so yeah it's a good session.
-----------------------------------------------------
in my handphone i saved 3 words as a reminder of how i should approach work.
wise words given by the sea god.
i was going to learn as much as i can, contribute as much as i can, and to keep the morale of the team high. That means no moaning and groaning abt the challenges, and to help and console the other team members as much as i can.
"learn, contribute, morale"
sometimes that's all the guidance we need.
